Charles Smith Chateau Smith 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Review

Quick Review – Called Chateau for that dose of formality, the wine is decent but not spectacular. Medium bodied and a bit too soft on the finish. 87/100

All of Charles Smith’s wines packaged in a tongue-in-cheek kind of way. There’s Kung Fu Girl for riesling, Boom Boom for a syrah, Velvet Devil for the merlot (which is honestly quite smooth).

For the Cabernet Sauvignon, I guess they wanted something more formal, so they opted for a humorous Chateau branding. (If there’s actually a Chateau, someone please correct me) Not to sound expensive or important, but perhaps a backhanded joke at certain brands trying to up their prestige factor with faux-chateaus (that are really more farm houses).

Jokes aside, Washington State Cabs really do not have the same punch as the ones found further down the West Coast. The body and texture of the wine was a bit of a let down, especially given such bold packaging. A decent table wine, but not complex enough on its own to warrant additional purchases.
